Topographic Survey - Coal Stockpile

Using drones we are able to capture data and create 3D models. By georeferencing with ground control points we managed an accuracy of 3-5 cm. A surprise to the client, but confirmed by baselining with their land surveyor. From drone data we created a 3D point cloud model, contour line drawings and output results to .dxf so they can be used in software such as AutoCAD. Not only is it quicker, but safer. By using drones we removed the risk of harm to land surveyors who would otherwise have to scramble over the stockpile. In wet weather the the surveyors legs would often sink into the sludge.
