From Drone To CAD

Updated: Jun 26, 2018

Drones can do more that just take pretty pictures. With advanced high resolution optics professional drones are capable of capturing imagery then can be processed to create 3D models. These models can be used to produce 2D CAD drawings or 3D CAD files etc.

However there is a art to this science. Weather, equipment, ground control points etc.

Accuracy is the name of the game when it comes to surveying and in the example shown in our video we worked with the spatial design manager from a civil engineering consultancy who checked our results using terrestrial Lidar equipment.

The result was we produced a topographic survey accurate to 5cm. We then took the point cloud data and converted it to CAD drawings for use by the Contractor as part of their obligations to provide as built drawings.
